Blanc confirms PSG talks

Laurent Blanc has confirmed that he is set for discussions with Paris Saint-Germain with a view to taking over as their new manager.

Blanc is one of many candidates to have been linked with the position at the Parc des Princes, which will become vacant when Carlo Ancelotti completes his highly-anticipated move to Real Madrid.

The former Bordeaux boss has been out of work since parting company with the French national team in June 2012 after a disappointing campaign at the UEFA European Championships last year.

However, the 47-year-old now appears set to be named as Ancelotti s successor in the near future, with a one-year contract with an option for a second the deal rumoured to be in the offing.

I ll be in Paris on Monday for talks, he told Le Parisien. There is…

Martin pens new Norwich deal

Norwich City defender Russell Martin has signed a new three-year contract with the club, .

The 27 year old has made 146 appearances for the Canaries since signing from Peterborough United in October 2009, a tally which includes every minute of the promotion winning campaign of 2010/2011.

The Scotland international initially moved to Carrow Road on loan; though he made his move permanent after just six games, going on to help guide the club to the League One championship under Paul Lambert.

Martin has missed just a handful of appearances since Norwich returned to the top flight, while he made his first competitive international start in last month’s victory over Croatia in Zagreb.

Meanwhile, manager Chris Hughton is hopeful of agreeing a deal for Bl…

Terry joins Aston Villa

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of former Chelsea captain John Terry.

Bar a six-game loan spell at Nottingham Forest in the 1999/2000 season, Terry has spent his entire career at Stamford Bridge, making 717 appearances and winning five Premier League titles, five FA Cup crowns and the Champions League in 2012.

But with playing time limited under Antonio Conte last season, he opted to move on when his contract expired at the end of June.

Klopp return to Dortmund not an issue for Castro

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Gonzalo Castro claims his team-mates have not spoken much about Jurgen Klopp s return to Signal Iduna Park with Liverpool.

Dortmund host the Premier League side and their former boss on Thursday in what is set to be an emotionally charged first leg of the Europa League quarter-final tie.

Klopp enjoyed phenomenal success at Dortmund, crowned by back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2010-11 and 2011-12.

But Castro joined the club from Bayer Leverkusen at the end the 48-year-old s reign as coach in May last year and appears to be benefiting from the distance that grants him.

We re not affected by the return of Klopp. We haven t really talked about it, he told a pre-match news conference.

We need to perform well and forget …

They have asked me to take over – Heynckes confirms Bayern approach

Jupp Heynckes has confirmed that Bayern Munich have approached him about returning to the club to succeed sacked coach Carlo Ancelotti, but the 72-year-old insists no decision has been made.

Bayern dismissed Ancelotti at the end of September following a 3-0 Champions League defeat to a rampant Paris Saint-Germain side.

That loss proved critical in sealing Ancelotti s fate, but reports have suggested that the Italian had already lost the support of several key players in the changing room.

It did not take long for reports to begin circulating about an approach for Heynckes, who led Bayern to an historic treble before stepping down in 2013, with speculation intensifying on Thursday.

Heynckes has now revealed that there is truth in those claims as he confirm…

Champions League over La Liga for Madrid, says Morientes

Despite watching bitter rivals Barcelona retain their La Liga crown, former Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes insists the Champions League is the most important objective for everyone at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It was ultimately another disappointing domestic campaign for Madrid, who saw Barca successfully defend their championship by a single point – leaving Los Blancos without a title since 2011-12.

But as Madrid aim to clinch an 11th European crown at the expense of Atletico Madrid in Milan on Saturday, three-time Champions League winner Morientes told Omnisport that Europe s premier club competition is what matters most.

Champions League is the most important. For Real Madrid to win the Champions League, even if Barcelona won La Liga, it doesn t m…

Khedira wants Low to keep Germany job

Sami Khedira has Joachim Low to continue as head coach of Germany, insisting responsibility for their World Cup failure rests  100 per cent on the shoulders of the players.

The Juventus midfielder credited Low with bringing through a generation of talented young players after Germany s World Cup success in 2014 and said the current squad is determined to make amends for a poor performance in Russia.

Germany suffered defeats to Mexico and South Korea on their way to being knocked out of the World Cup in the opening round for the first time since 1938, leaving Low – who is contracted until 2022 – facing an uncertain future.

Khedira was quick to defend the 58-year-old when asked whether he should continue to lead the team, saying: Definitely, he can and should!…

Coleman to take time before considering Wales future

Chris Coleman will leave time for the dust to settle on Wales unsuccessful World Cup qualifying campaign before making a decision on his future as coach.

Wales hopes of reaching the competition for the first time since 1958 were dashed by a 1-0 defeat to the Republic of Ireland at the Cardiff City Stadium on Monday.

Coleman s side consequently finished third in Group D, with Ireland advancing to the play-off stage behind Serbia following James McClean s second-half winner.

Despite guiding the nation to an unprecedented semi-final at Euro 2016, failure to earn a place in Russia has forced the 47-year-old contemplate his next move.

The only picture in my mind is the faces of the players in the dressing room and the disappointment. They re inconsolable …

The Premier League leaders restored their eight-point advantage at the top of the table over Manchester United, who they face in a keenly awaited derby clash next weekend.

Second-half goals from Nicolas Otamendi and David Silva – the latter s volley on the end of Kevin De Bruyne s superb chipped pass coming seven minutes from time – overturned Angelo Ogbonna s opener and ensured City equalled Arsenal and Chelsea s Premier League record of 13 successive wins in the same season.

Raheem Sterling hit injury-time winners against Huddersfield Town and Southampton sides who showed minimal attacking intent in their recent outings against Pep Guar…
