Lyon’s Cissokho talks up Man Utd move

The agent of Lyon defender Aly Cissokho has revealed that his client is very interested in joining Manchester United in the summer.

The highly rated full-back is widely tipped to leave Lyon at the end of the season, with a number of high-profile clubs chasing his signature.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson sees the 24-year-old as a perfect replacement for Patrice Evra and the player’s agent now reveals that Old Trafford is his client’s preferred destination.

Aly wants to play in the Premier League because he feels it suits his game, representative Ali Barat told talkSPORT.

He has already turned down interest from AC Milan and Juventus because he wants to move to the Premier League and his preferred destination would be Manchester United.

Redknapp denies resignation rumours

Harry Redknapp has emphatically quashed speculation that he has resigned as manager of Tottenham.

The 65-year-old who has been in charge of the North London club since October 2008 has just one year remaining on his contract.

Rumours that Redknapp was set to walk out spread rapidly on the internet on Tuesday night, forcing the Spurs boss to deny the speculation.

No, I haven t resigned, and I have no idea why it is being suggested that I have resigned, Redknapp told ESPN.

This is an outrage; an absolute liberty for people to be putting around this kind of rumour on the internet.

It is not true, there is not a chance I will resign. Why should I? I have a year left on my contract.

Redknapp is believed to have narrowly missed out on the E…

His season is a masterpiece – Guardiola lauds Bernardo Silva as one of Europe´s best

Pep Guardiola applauded Bernardo Silva for his performance in Manchester City s 2-0 derby win over Manchester United and heralded the Portuguese midfielder as one of Europe s best players.

Silva joined City ahead of the 2017-18 campaign from Monaco to much fanfare and had a solid, if unspectacular, debut campaign, often finding himself used as a substitute.

But this term he has truly raised his game to another level, finding himself involved in 14 Premier League goals – including a strike against United on Wednesday – and impressing with his all-round play.

Although perhaps best known for his ability on the ball, Silva has also been regularly praised by Guardiola for his work-rate.

And, following the win that could prove crucial in City s title defenc…

Southampton 1 Arsenal 1: Super-sub Giroud rescues last-gasp point

Olivier Giroud proved to be Arsenal s super-sub once again as he rescued a 1-1 draw two minutes from time at Southampton.

Charlie Austin fired an early opener for Mauricio Pellegrino s hosts – his fifth in three Premier League starts this season – and the striker was unlucky not to have more to show for the palpable sense of panic he and the Southampton attack injected into a shambling Arsenal backline.

Arsene Wenger s men recovered their poise and some swashbuckling attacking play as they sought an equaliser before half time made for a captivating contest.

But France striker Alexandre Lacazette could not claim the goal his endeavours deserved and it was left to his compatriot Giroud – a man, like Austin, not too well-versed in starting games this term –…

Everton sign Godfrey on five-year deal

Premier League leaders Everton have signed defender Ben Godfrey from Norwich City on a five-year deal.

The Toffees are reported to have paid Championship side Norwich an initial fee of £25million for Godfrey, potentially rising to £30m.

Godfrey captained England Under-21s on his full debut last year and played a huge part in Norwich s promotion to the top flight in the 2018-19 season.

The 22-year-old is Carlo Ancelotti s fifth signing during the transfer window, which closes on Monday, following the arrivals of Niels Nkounkou, Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Buffon offered contract extension by PSG

Gianluigi Buffon confirmed Paris Saint-Germain have offered him a contract extension.

Buffon, 41, was expected to retire at the end of the 2017-18 campaign with Juventus before PSG persuaded him to move to France, and now he is considering a further extension to his career.

The Italian has featured 24 times across all competitions for the Ligue 1 champions this season, sharing first-choice responsibilities with Alphonse Areola.

He only signed a one-year deal with PSG, but has shown himself to still be capable of performing at the highest level despite his age.

And PSG seem intent on keeping him around until he is 42.

Focus on Germany protest no excuse for shock Japan loss – Flick

Hansi Flick knows Germany are now under pressure but would not accept their focus on the OneLove campaign as an excuse for their defeat to Japan.

Germany lost 2-1 at Khalifa International Stadium on Wednesday in a match that appeared set to be second billing to a demonstration ahead of kick-off prior to the second-half turnaround.

Die Mannschaft captain Manuel Neuer did not go through with wearing the OneLove armband, which promotes inclusion and sends a message against discrimination of any kind , with those planning to wear the armband having been threatened with sanctions by FIFA.

Instead, Germany s players lined up for their pre-match team photo with their hands over their mouths, saying FIFA was denying us a voice .

Hungary 0-4 England: Sterling helps Three Lions shake off Euros hangover

England claimed a comprehensive 4-0 victory in Hungary in their first match since the Euro 2020 final, taking a giant stride towards 2022 World Cup qualification.

Goals from Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane, Harry Maguire and Declan Rice gave the Three Lions a fourth win in four in this campaign as they aim to move on from July s Wembley heartbreak against Italy.

An England side showing only one change from that penalty shoot-out defeat – Jack Grealish in for Kieran Trippier – dictated play in Budapest but had to bide their time.

Sterling took his chance early in the second half, though, and Gareth Southgate s men were comfortable thereafter, the outing only marred by objects thrown from the home supporters during England s celebrations as they moved five point…

Champions League success does not define Bayern move, says Kane

Harry Kane refuted suggestions Champions League glory this season will decide the success of his Bayern Munich move, after Tuesday s 2-2 draw with Real Madrid in the semi-final first leg.

Kane scored from the penalty spot to make it 2-1 to Bayern early in the second half, just four minutes after Leroy Sane had levelled with a thunderous finish at Allianz Arena.

Having finished with his usual ease from 12 yards, Kane became the first English player to be directly involved in 11 goals in a single Champions League campaign.

Kane is the joint-top scorer across Europe s big five leagues in all competitions this season (43 – level with Kylian Mbappe), while the England captain now has the most combined goals and assists of any player (54 – 43 goals and 11 assists).…

Today at the World Cup: England prepare for first final appearance

England have begun preparations for their first appearance in the final of the Women’s World Cup.

Goals from Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo secured an historic 3-1 win over co-hosts Australia and set up an all-European final showdown against Spain on Sunday.

Here, the PA news agency looks back at the day after the night before.

Ella dilemma

Lionesses boss Sarina Wiegman has a selection dilemma after Toone’s sparkling display.

The midfielder replaced Lauren James, who scored three goals and picked up the same number of assists before she was sent off late in the second half of England’s last-16 victory over Nigeria.

She has now served the two-game ban she was issued for stepping on the back of defender Michelle Alozie and is be av…
